Bangladesh's Remittance Flow Records Over 21 Percent Growth

Bangladeshi working abroad sent home a record $3.61 billion as remittances in the first four months of the current fiscal, registering a 21.24 percent growth over the same period in the last fiscal period.

The remittances from Bangladeshi nationals working abroad were estimated at $911.20 million in October, up by $23.63 million from the previous month. In September 2009, the remittance was $887.57 million, according to the central bank statistics, released on Tuesday.

Remittances by Zambians abroad rise

REMITTANCES by Zambians in the diaspora jumped from K24.4 billion in January to K35.5 billion last August owing to investible opportunities in the country, the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has revealed.

According to recent statistics released by BoZ head of public Relations Kanguya Mayondi, the January figure was a leap from last year’s which closed December at the paltry K4.8 billion from K3.4 billion recorded the previous month.

Mayondi stated that in the first eight months of this year, the country had recorded an increase in remittances except in July when they slowed down to K27.4 billion compared with K31.1 billion the month before.

Saudi foreign worker remittances soaring: economist

Remittances from Saudi Arabia's estimated nine million mostly Asian foreign workers are soaring as the kingdom recruits more of them for its massive development plan, an economist said on Saturday.

At 18.4 billion dollars last year and 15.0 billion in the first eight months of 2009, earnings sent abroad now equalled four percent of Saudi gross domestic product, John Sfakianakis of Banque Saudi Fransi said, citing government data.

Remittances in the January-August 2009 period jumped 12 percent compared with 2008, according to central bank statistics.

Remittances to Moldova exceed 730 million dollars in eight months of 2009

Moldovans working abroad remitted over 730 million dollars through commercial banks in the first eight months of 2009. This is by about 35 per cent less against the same period last year, when the remittances amounted to 1.1 billion dollars, according to data by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).

Remittances from abroad started decreasing last January. In August 2009, the transfers stood at 103 million dollars, at the same level as a month before. The drop in remittances is triggered by the economic crisis, as part of the Moldovans working abroad lost their jobs or returned home.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin Thursday said the monthly remittances from expatriate Pakistanis have enlarged from $650 million to over $800 million following the launching of Pakistan remittances initiatives in May 2009.

Remittances to El Salvador Fall 10%

Remittances from Salvadoran emigrants totaled $2.58 billion during the first nine months of the year, down 10.3 percent from the same period in 2008, the Central American nation’s central bank said Monday.

The Banco Central de Reserva noted, however, that the pace of the decline in remittances has slowed, from 12.7 percent in the second quarter to 10.4 percent in the July-September period.
